ADAS calibration after collision repair

The cameras and sensors behind your bumper and windshield have to be aimed right to work.

ADAS stands for advanced driver assistance systems, the cameras and sensors that run features like automatic braking and lane keeping. After a repair that affects them, they need to be calibrated so they point where the manufacturer intended. Performance Collision Center makes sure that happens as part of your repair.

Systems that may need calibration

Most newer cars have at least a few of these.

  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane keeping and lane departure warning
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Blind spot monitoring
  • Backup camera and parking sensors
  • Toyota Safety Sense

Calibration questions

Why does a small fender bender need calibration?

A sensor that's off by a small amount can look at the wrong spot on the road. That can change when automatic braking or lane keeping reacts.

Will a warning light tell me if something is off?

Not always. A system can be out of calibration without a warning light, which is why it's checked after the repair.

Does insurance pay for calibration?

When the repair calls for it, calibration is normally part of the claim. It's listed on the estimate we send your adjuster.

Do I have to use the shop my insurance company recommends?

No. In Pennsylvania you choose where your car is repaired. Your right to choose.
